Solana Sharks was a group of 14 students (fellows) from all over the world who graduated from the MLH Internship in the summer of 2022. The team worked on two projects: Solana Bounty (4 fellows) and Solana Whitelisting Contract (10 fellows).

Take advantage of every opportunity this program has to offer: finish that PR, take the interview, meet with your pod mates one last time. Looking back, asking "what if..." is never fun.
Partner Success Manager | MLH
These last 12 weeks were a blur, but in reality they're only the beginning for you. You all contributed in some way to building the future of blockchain, and I have no doubt each of you will continue building things that impact the world. Dream big and take it one step at a time!
Program Delivery | MLH
Congratulations to all of our wonderful fellows this Summer! 22.SUM.8, you've come a long way! A lot of you had never touched Blockchain/Web3 before the summer and now you're making dApps like a pro! I'm super excited to see what's next for your journeys! If you haven't already, connect with each other on LinkedIn and continue engaging even after the program! You can connect with me too
Maintainer | Solana Wallet Based Whitelisting Contract
I would say grasping the data model consideration of Solana is the hardest part. By the end of the fellowship I felt our pod had a great handle on what to consider when archeticting a solana app. From simple things as what should be used as a pda, to how to more complexs structures and security checks such as authority models in Solana programs. I'd encourage any of the student to go out and build their own ideas for onchain apps now! Take what you learned and apply it to anything you think would be cool to work on. I'm sure you'll run into some snags along the way but if you just come back this project as an example I don't think it'll take any of you too long to get passed them and thats whats most important.
Meeting deadlines and working w/ a team
Learning a great deal about solana and anchor especially. Now i have an understanding of how to build dapps using the blockchain and can continue to grow from there
My fellowship experience was very good, I got to learn a lot while contributing to a real project. I hope to have more experiences like this in the future
ShadowDrive storage w/ rust/wasm front-end, rust middleware hosted on linode for communicating between the client and the server.
Solana ecosystem, Remote work and I have improved coding skills with new languages.
I have learned many new skills in the fellowship, involving a lot of different areas of the project(smart contract + backend + frontend) while also competing in blockchain hackathons with those. Also, one of my biggest successes is having met great people :)
Very good, I am 100% sure that has been extremely worth it.
Rust, Javascript + Typescript + React, Python
Anchor, Rust, Web3 development!
I was able to build a full-stack Web3 app that implemented a whitelisting solution on the Solana blockchain: all technologies that I have never used before.
Good! We were given a lot of autonomy to learn the parts of Anchor/Solana that interested us, and we were able to apply what we learned to a real life project.
C++ all-around :)
· How to make the most out of the Next.js framework (in no small part by bombarding Héctor with questions throughout the Fellowship). · Soft skills, such as improving inter-team communication and presentation skills. · Web3 and on-chain calls and interactions, working with the Solana ecosystem in general.
It's crazy to think I've designed the UI for an official Solana product that hopefully going to be useful for a substantial amount of people.
It was amazing - Working on the Solana Bounty program was an amazing experience, and having helped ship an end-to-end, fully functional product at the end of the Fellowship felt incredibly rewarding.
Next, Tailwind, Vercel
Web3, backend (mainly auth), teamwork
We were able to finish the Solana Bounty Program (https://solana-bounty-program.vercel.app/) on time and with all features in place! I'm glad that we submitted it to the Solana Summer Camp Hackathon and that all interested parties were satisfied with the result.
Loved every second! It's an amazing opportunity for aspiring open-source developers to sharpen their skills, network, and have a really good time. Personally, I learned a lot about teamwork. Would definitely recommend!
Framer Motion, Next.js/Remix, PlanetScale, Prisma, React, React Aria / RadixUI, Tailwind CSS / Chakra UI, TypeScript
Solana, Blockchain, TypeScript
Got a very good intro into the web3 ecosystem and the scope ahead
Excellent. I learnt a lot, I made new friends, and above all I enjoyed a lot.
C++, Visual Studio
-How to write a solana smart contract, -How to use the anchor framework, -Deeper understanding of blockchain and its use cases
-Developing a whitelisting smart contract solution and integrating it with a working frontend
Very good!
Within the fellowship we used anchor which is built off of rust, as well as NextJS for the front end
Collaboration, Rust, Solana ecosystem
Learning Rust, something which I've been putting off for a long time and finally be able to write smart contracts on Solana which seemed so daunting at first
It was really amazing I had so much fun learning and building
React, Flask, Mongo, Solidity/Eth, Rust/Solana, Dart/Flutter
- How to work in team - Learned about solana and about blockchains in general - It was good talking and working with pod mates from different countries
- Learned about solana blockchain and web3 - Managed to complete the fellowship project - Will be attending solana hacker house next months , thinking about hackathon project ideas.
It was amazing overall, would love to be fellow again :)
I like C and C++, previously have worked with MERN and Python(Django).
1. How to develop apps on Solana chain. 2. How to make contributions to open source projects. 3. How to work in a team.
I think my biggest success was that I learned how to learn programming and many other stuffs on my own. This ability has been the single most important key on my career switch path.
Great experience!
Still figuring this part out!
1. What is Web 3 2. Using next.js 3. How to use pull requests to contribute to a large scale project with multiple contributors.
Implemented the website interface which is fully responsive. Implemented wallet integration allowing user connect their wallet to claim bounties and get rewards.
It was a fun experience. I learned a lot from collaborating with my teammate to complete the project.
MERN stack
Nextjs, Reactjs, TailwindCSS
I'm so proud and happy with my contributions to the Solana bounty program
I'm so happy with my fellowship journey as I learned many things, collaborated with wonderful people, and gained a lot of experience.
MERN, mainly interested at backend development
